Construction:
We were able to start construction much earlier than expected and have completed the offices for our tenant, which will enable them to move from their current office space, which will become our new Orange Bay.
Other walls have started to go up as well, with the main wall in the back half (separating the shops and our tenant) targeted for late December completion.
By December 25th the final work to consolidate the tenant to their side will be complete, and the tenant will empty the remaining space by January 1st.
We have the NovaLabs network up and running at 1gig speeds 4x our current speed! Wireless is now available in the front area and our IT team is continuing to build out our full capabilities.
We presented the phased floor plan at the member meeting Dec 9; if you are a Nova Labs member you can access it here: NL3.0 December Update
Move:
If you’ve seen the current space recently, you know our pre-move prep has begun. Nonessential tools and critical items will be packed early to minimize disruption to your making activities.
This past weekend a volunteer crew did critical prep work to support the Matsuura (very large metal CNC mill) move. This included raising the roof of the back building 4 inches, which was quite a feat.
We’re still collecting boxes and other packing materials - you can place them in the glass walled classroom in 1916.
Shops will move in phases throughout January; stay tuned for announcements of specific closings and move dates for each area.
The Innovation Center and other 1930 tenants will move in phases during February.
We plan to hold an open house for members in early January, and for the broader public once we get settled in February.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who are working hard to make this happen!
How you can help:
We need your financial support. Please see the member Capital Campaign information and donate today! If you can’t directly donate, please share the message on social media or see what support your employer may provide. Our campaign is making great progress, we are very close to hitting our goal of $250K! We want everyone to feel invested in the future of Nova Labs - even if you can only give a few dollars, we hope you will participate.
Volunteer: The majority of construction will be done by contractors, but there’s still a lot that can be done by volunteers. We need to replace lights, replace bathroom fixtures, do some deep cleaning, etc. We’ve issued a call for volunteers and noted specific skill sets needed. PLEASE give time when and where you can - hours can be very flexible. Many more opportunities will come, please stay tuned for updates
